Welcome to Vocemeam

Hello! I have decided to start a blog to go alongside my academic website. This is the first of what I hope to be many blog posts. I don’t know how often I will update. I need to get back into the discipline of writing. I am hoping to use the blog to stretch my writing muscles, which atrophied a little after the PhD. But overall, I guess I will post when I feel I have something to say (and when I have the time). But, anyway, I hope you enjoy them.

I have called the blog ‘vocemeam’. It is inspired by the Latin for ‘my voice’ - vocem meam. It’s a pretentious blog title, I know, but I have grown to like it as I have been using it in various forms as a username/handle over the years. Readers of Latin could probably tell me if it is completely wrong. My surname is Voice, so I wanted to get that into the name somehow. It’s such a good name for a media scholar, right? Talk about nominative determinism. It was either this or become a speech therapist!

Anyway, I anticipate I will mostly be writing about media and digital culture. Maybe in an academic sense, maybe not. Who knows? I’m also interested in animals, philosophy, literature, and films and TV, so these might make an appearance. I am also a Nottingham Forest fan, for my sins. Don’t worry, I doubt I will write much about them though.

You can find me on a couple of other social media platforms:
